All psychotherapy should be transformational, otherwise what is the point of spending the time and energy required to do it. But it isn’t always. The conclusion I have come to in the last 30 years is that two things are important in good psychotherapy. They are, the respect for the wisdom of the client’s own healing system and the utilization of the wholeness of a person’s body, mind and spirit. There is, therefore, no cookie cutter approach to each individual healing plan.
For me, as a practitioner, this involves multisensory paths to health, harmony and healing for body, mind and spirit.
As you can see from the other pages on this site, it involves using everything that nature has provided us with: sound, color, energy in and around the body (the acupuncture meridians and the eastern chakra system) and safe spaces to let the body, mind and spirit do its work, whether that is in the physical realm, the emotional realm or in the realm of the psyche. Just like we need to use and access all parts of nature (the air, the water, the earth and the fire), we need to use and access all parts of ourselves.
This work is about accessing our own resources, to know who we truly are. We are all our own healers. The first step in this process is getting to know ourselves and where our strengths and comforts are.
Some of us are more comfortable using our intellect and the emotional and spirit realms are left out.
Some of us like to dance around in the sky and the other realms are not quite so comfortable to access.
Wherever you are, the work starts there, whether it is where you are feeling stuck or unfulfilled in your life, or with an ailment that has been chronic, or emotions that feel unbalanced. And whether we are using Biodynamic Cranial Sacral therapy, Somatic Experiencing, Sound and Color, or a combination of all three, the movement is toward inner clarity and accessing your innate wisdom.
